    (7th May): Inauguration ceremony by Honorable Chief Minister of Gandaki Province at Water Front Resort at 08 am Rally starts from Pokhara to Marpha via Beni.

The Event will begin with an Opening Ceremony on 7thMay 2021 at 08:00 AM (Pokhara) and end the event with a closing ceremony on 11th May 2021 at 5:00 PM (Pokhara).

Upper Mustang "The last Forbidden Kingdom” is geographically a part of the Tibetan plateau and popular as the mini Tibet, lies in the backyard of the rain shadow of Mount Annapurna and Mount Dhaulagiri, the region is often known as Land beyond the Himalayas of Nepal. Kali Gandaki River (The world deepest gorge) runs southward towards Nepal in Tarai, bisecting Mustang. Routes paralleling the river once served as a major trade route between Tibet and India, especially for salt.

Upper Mustang remained a restricted demilitarized area, is considered to be one of the best-preserved examples of Tibetan culture in the world. Until 1992 it was forbidden for foreigners to enter the area, and access is still restricted to those willing to pay the special trekking permit to visit and must be accompanied by a government appointed official.

Lo Manthang, is the capital of Upper Mustang, is a small medieval kingdom surrounded by a huge town wall. Lo Manthang is the former kingdom of Lo and it was founded by “Ame pal” in 1380 A.D. and till 2008 there was the existence of separate kingdom and they have their own rules and regulations even it is Nepal. In 2008 Nepal was declared the republic kingdom and all the monarchy was thrown away. The last king of Lo Manthang was “Jigme Dorje Palbar Bista” and 25th ceremonial king of Lo Manthang. Tiji Festival is the biggest auspicious colorful festival in Lo Manthang, and is held annually around mid-May. Word Tiji is derived from Tenji. According to Tibetan dictionary Tenji mean “praying for world peace”. This three day festival as a whole celebrates the victory of God over Demon and Good over Evil. It is believed that the region was in trouble, being destroyed by a demon that spread epidemics and took away the water. Dorje Jono (known also as Dorje Phurba, Vajrakila, or Vajrakumar) fought and defeated the demon. This defeat brings peace and prosperity to the land of Mustang. Every year Tiji festival takes place in the hope of spreading peace throughout the world with masked dancers in colorful costumes dance performances by the Buddhist monks of Chode monastery takes place. An ancient Thangka painting of Guru Rimpoche Padmasambhava is displayed during the festival, the only time it is on public display.


Note: Tiji Festival 2021 is on 8th to 10th May 2021 in Lo-Manthang, Upper Mustang. The trip to Upper-Mustang can only be arranged through licensed trekking companies of Nepal.
